Happy Sunday friends! π
This month during rounds, I wanted to get personal and share a little life update π...
I recently moved from Phoenix to Houston to start a new job π!
This transition has been over 6 months in the making π. It was a long journey from traveling across the country for interviews βοΈ to getting allll the credentialing paperwork done for licensing π to actually starting clinical work at my new hospital system π©Ί.
As exciting as all these changes have been, I have to admit they've really taken me back to basics πΆπ». I was at my last job for three years, and during that time I got to know the staff and the system very well.
My new job in Houston represents a really big shift π. A new city that I've never lived in ποΈ. An electronic medical record that I've never used before π. Bigger hospitals with brand new faces and places ππ½.
As steep as the learning curve might be, I think it's also one of the hidden gems of a career in medicine π. We never stop learning, and that's not even limited to the medicine itself π. I've been very fortunate that everyone at work has been incredibly helpful, showing me the way when I get lost and answering every little question I have π€·π½ββοΈ.
One thing I've found interesting is the beginner's mind I've been forced into π. Our Emergency Center is currently undergoing a lot of changes, and for the physicians that have been there for years this can be very frustrating π. For me though, these new processes are the only thing I know, and I've already found unique ways to navigate these changes and help others do the same π‘.
I have no doubt that you too are probably in the midst of some change π. Perhaps you're starting out on clinical rotations, your first month of residency, or maybe even your first attending job π€©. Whatever stage you're in, remember to enjoy the journey π£οΈ. It's okay to not know everything immediately, it's okay to stumble. There will be others to pick you back up, and better days are just down the road π .
I'd love to have a chat and hear about your journey, so feel free to DM me @MedSchoolMoose on Instagram or TikTok π¬ or email me at medschoolmoose@gmail.com π¨!
